To All Eastman Residents:

Please still look for leaks, both in and outside your home

Remember this is the time of year when a light frost will split , crack or shatter outdoor garden hose connections. Some homes have a special outdoor faucet that actually shuts the water off well inside the house. Older homes may not have this feature, but may have a separate valve inside the home to isolate the outside faucet, in either case make sure they are drained and off if you are done with them for the season.

We all need to work together to conserve water.  We ask that all of you also implement these water conservation measures:

     a)  Reduce the number of times you flush your toilets.
     b)  Take shorter more efficient showers.
     c)  Rinse dishes in a few inches of water in the sink, not under a running faucet.
     d)  Reduce the use of a dishwasher, by only running when it is full.
     e)  Reduce the use of clothes washer by only running it with a large load.
     f)  Collect rain water in a bucket to use when watering your flowers

The Fall Meter Reading Will be Done Between October 24th and 28th 2011. The Water Bills Will go Out November 1st

The Isolation Valve Repair and Replacement Program Is Complete, Thank You For Your Patience!

!!! Leak Detection Tip !!!

A leak can be anywhere, however, most toilets are the culprit when it comes to large and sustained water loss in households. Pour about 1/2 of a cup of food color into the toilet tank, blue or green work best, though any color will do. Wait 5-15 minutes and if the water in the bowl turns color you have a leak. If you have or suspect a leak, either call a licensed plumber, or if you are handy and the tank valves and gaskets are older, you can replace the flapper in the toilet for less than 5 dollars!

The Village District Office has food color, and is free if you need it. The above test is a great teaching tool for kids.

HELP US CONSERVE WATER!

Over the course of the past few months we have repaired several water leaks from the water shut-off at the street into private properties and small main lines. If you hear water running, hissing or other "unusual" noise near or at your water service please let us know, there is no charge for us to look and listen.

Most water lines enter the basement and will have a shut off valve on them, this is the area to pay particular attention to. Listening while all appliances are off and later in the evening is best.

Also keep an eye out for wet areas outside, in ditch lines and any other area that normally would not have water around it.

Thank You,

William S. Weber, District Manager
